Cheap home insurance
can prove to be very expensive.
The problem is; no two policies are the
same just as no two houses are the same. We all expect our
policies to cover the usual risks like fire and flood and subsidence
but; what happens if the fire is caused by vandalism or a careless
tradesman who is doing a job for you, the flood is caused by a
blocked drain on your neighbour's drive, the subsidence is caused by
a tree growing in the street outside your home? If your drains,
underground pipes or sewers are damaged will your insurers cover the
cost of repair? If they get blocked will they pay to unblock them?
What if the blockage is outside your property? If your expensive
flagged driveway has to be dug up will they pay for it to be relayed
or will they insist on cheap tarmac? And will they settle the bill
for a closed-circuit TV inspection to find the problem in the first
place? These
are just examples of the bewildering list of problems that can and
do crop up unexpectedly and having an expensive home emergency can
be a frightening experience by itself without having to worry about
whether or not your insurers will pay out at the end. Only too
often, though, home owners go to price comparison sites and buy a
policy that is much cheaper than their existing one without taking
the time to find out whether or not the cover is the same; the
answer usually is no, it isn't. The answer is: do not buy on price
alone, check carefully to make sure that the policy covers
everything that you want covered and spend a few moments reading the
small print; they could prove to be the most valuable few minutes
you have ever spent.
